Brake Repair

Disc Brakes & Drum Brakes
Have you ever caught yourself slamming on the brakes for a stoplight? Or maybe you’ve been cut off by another driver trying to enter an intersection? Brakes are one of the most used systems on a vehicle and typically take the most abuse when they have to be slammed on to avoid an accident. No matter what the circumstances are there are those moments when brake failure could possibly result in a terrifying outcome for you or your vehicle.

Disc Brakes

Disc brakes are the most efficient brake system for your vehicle. One reason for this the rotor is exposed to the air to help cool the system down from the extreme heat that is built up during the braking process. The second reason is if they get wet they dry out quickly so no friction is lost from having water in or on the system. When it comes time to service your brakes it is important that your rotors have a clean, smooth even surface so that the brake pads can have the greatest possible surface area to create the friction that ultimately stops your car. Rotors can be turned if they have enough metal left to create this smooth surface or you can replace the rotors with brand new ones. The advantage of new rotors is the metal will be thicker and less prone to warping which can cause your steering wheel to shake back and forth when you brake and also increase the amount of time it takes you to stop your vehicle. Of course our ASE certified mechanics can determine which route will be best for you when we inspect your system.

Drum Brakes

Drum brakes are not used as much today as they were years ago. If they are used at all it is typically on the rear axle of the vehicle because the majority of the stopping force for any wehicle will be from the front axle. Because our mechanics are ASE Cerified we are very familiar with drum brakes and if you have problems can get you back on the road quickly. Hopefully your brakes never go out completely when you are on the road, but if you do need a wrecker service we hope you will consider Stewart’s Automotive & Towing to get your vehicle safely off the side of the road and into our shop so we can make the necessary repairs and get you back on the road.
